How to Add a Bible Verse Widget to Your iPhone Lock Screen
Your Lock Screen is the first thing you see every morning and the screen you glance at dozens of times a day. Putting a Bible verse there is the simplest way to keep Scripture in front of you — no reminders, no willpower, no opening an app. Here is exactly how to set it up in under two minutes.
What you need
- An iPhone running iOS 16 or later (Lock Screen widgets were introduced in iOS 16).
- A Bible widget app. In this guide we use SoulVerse — Bible: Widgets & Verses, which includes a free Verse of the Day Lock Screen widget that refreshes automatically every morning.
Step 1 — Activate the widget in the app
- Open SoulVerse and go to the Customize tab in the bottom bar.
- On the Widgets tab you'll see the Lock Screen Widget card — it adds the Verse of the Day to your lock screen.
- Tap it once so the widget is ready to appear in the iOS widget gallery.
Step 2 — Add it to your Lock Screen
- Touch and hold your Lock Screen (unlock the phone first with Face ID, but stay on the Lock Screen).
- Tap Customize, then choose the Lock Screen preview.
- Tap the widget area below the clock.
- Find SoulVerse in the widget list and tap the verse widget to add it.
- Tap Done in the top-right corner. That's it.
From now on, a fresh verse appears on your Lock Screen every day — the widget updates itself, so the first thing you see each morning is God's Word.
Make it yours

Troubleshooting
- SoulVerse doesn't appear in the widget list — open the app at least once after installing, then try again. iOS registers widgets on first launch.
- The widget shows but looks empty — check that the widget is activated in the app's Customize tab, and give it a few seconds to load the verse.
- The verse doesn't update — iOS refreshes widgets on its own schedule, usually overnight. If it seems stuck, remove and re-add the widget or restart your iPhone.
